| A Celebration for Alice |
|
A live recording of the recital is released on CD. The recital included an eclectic mix of repertoire. On the inside sleeve of her CD, Gillian explains: "I chose the songs with great care...I wanted them to collectively encapsulate all that made Alice, Alice....my hope was to give everyone in the audience on 20th October 2001, a sense of this beautiful little soul." Tracks include: Pie Jesu, Mandoline (Faure), Chevaux de Bois (Debussy), Fleurs (Poulenc), Deh, Vieni Non Tardar, Laudate Dominum (Mozart), The Monk & His Cat (Barber), The Little Road to Bethlehem (Head), Old Sir Faulk (Walton), The Tale of the Oyster (Porter), Widmung (Schumann), Du Meines Herzens Kronelein (Strauss), Amarilli (Caccini), Weep Ye No More Sad Fountains, My Father's Favourite (Doyle), Love's Philosophy (Quilter), Silent Noon (Vaughan Williams), Somewhere (Bernstein), Summertime (Gershwin). The venue, The Wessex Centre at Sparsholt College near Winchester, set in 450 acres of beautiful, peaceful Hampshire downland, was a most sensitive location for this poignant event. |

On October 20th 2001, Gillian and David performed a special programme of repertoire to commemorate the life of Alice Elizabeth, Gillian's youngest daughter, who died earlier in the year. The repertoire for the concert was carefully chosen to reflect aspects of Alice's life, her experiences and her joys.
